You Draw!

Posted in Digital Art on January 26th, 2010 by Ryan

Ok, so this one is a bit older, but it never made it to the old site, so I thought it was worth revisiting here.

A few years ago I frequented a site called You Draw that features a neat little drawing tablet, which visitors are encouraged to use to create drawings that will be featured together in a group of 500,000. This is meant to be multiplied and shown in a group of 6 billion as a representation of world population.

I got really into seeing what I could come up with using the tiny rectangle format and simple tools. These are 16 of the images I came up with, but you can view all 152 drawings I contributed on the gallery page.

You can also visit the You Draw site here.

Four for 52

This wasn’t the night I was planning on the next in the 52 series, but I had an idea today that I had to try out. I have other directions I’d like to take this with more time.

The Latest Time Lapse “52″

Posted in Paintings, Time Lapse on January 24th, 2010 by Ryan

Here is the latest time for the 52 painting this week.  I’m still working on getting a better system in place to let me shoot for larger works that take much longer to finish.  The gallery cat makes a very brief appearance at the 6 minute mark, which is when she was bugging me to pay attention to her.

52 for the Week

Here is the latest in the “52″ series.  This piece falls mostly into the Concentric Fracture as well, though I’ve ventured outside the square format here.

I will be posting the time lapse for this painting soon as well.

Time Lapse Fracture

Posted in Paintings, Time Lapse on January 21st, 2010 by Ryan

My first crack at a painting time lapse.  I was limited on the length of time I could get the camera to run, so I had to paint slightly faster on this one.  Since filming this, I have upgraded to new software that will allow me to do larger projects, and am currently working on new time lapse and stop motion pieces.

The finished artwork can be seen as part of the Concentric Fracture series.

Happy Birthday, Gallery Cat

Posted in Uncategorized on January 20th, 2010 by Ryan

There was once a time when I could paint without a little monster threatening to dash across my palette and track paint around my apartment in a furry frenzy.  Of course, that seems like a long time ago now, but it’s been just shy of a year. I got her when she was a few months old, close to when this picture was taken, and today she’s a year old.  She does her best to thwart my attempts at getting work done by attacking the end of my brush as it moves, hanging around practically under my feet asking to be stepped on as I move back and forth from the easel, and sneak attacking me from behind after I’ve brushed her away from freshly mixed paint.

I often return home to find that a paintbrush has been dragged around without mercy, and has somehow ended up behind the toilet.  In fact, as I try to write this, I’m fighting off attacks on my feet and attempts to sit on the keyboard.

Despite all the added challenges, I look forward to another year of the gallery cat keeping me on my toes with all her attempts at derailing my productivity in art.

Happy birthday Zoey.  If you ever sit still long enough, perhaps you could be the subject of a painting yourself.

The 52 Continues

This is the second piece in the “52″ series.  I’m enjoying working a bit smaller, while exploring some of the ideas from the concentric fracture series I started last year.

Having just switched on the new site, I’m still setting things up here.  For now, enjoy one of my most recent paintings, the first from the line “52″
